In Mrs. Hanley’s Room 129 you will find a bustling center of learning in 6 different academic areas spread out through the day.  The above items are infused throughout the day.

1)   First period- We have Career Experience where the students are getting ready to work at Publix and on Campus. The Career Prep class is exploring career options and paths as well as how to fill out job applications and conduct interviews.

2)   Planning

3)   Integrated Science- This class is on a rotation of garden science and integrated science with the focus on the scientific method. Students are split into working groups or paired up for classwork.

4)   Algebra 1A/B- we have numerous groupings based on level of support and the students are all working toward the same goal for mastery with some needing remediation in various areas.

5)   World History-  In pairs students will be working on their  Latin America projects.  Including a study of the Day of the Dead in each country.

6)   English 1-4 All English class are taught simultaneously. This year we will focus on increasing vocabulary through direct and indirect instruction and the conventions of writing.

Now while the subject matter may not interest you please drop by and see how we are able to teach such a diverse group of 24 kids effectively based on their needs. We are a student driven classroom that adapts to the needs of the students while keeping them on track with  the standards.

The first 10 minutes of class review is provide of the material recently covered and then new instruction is provided if necessary.  The students read the board and they know what materials they will need for class. The classroom is set up so that the tools the students need for success are readily available for them and they know how to find them.

The middle 30 minutes of class is where individual conferencing, group work or additional support is provided to the students. Questions are taken and the students know how to obtain addition support if necessary by turning their tents.

Last minutes of class- recap and ask if the students want to go over any of the material at length tomorrow because they didn’t understand completely. Tomorrows lesson will be adapted based on their response.
